The Gourmet Traveller 2011 Awards were announced this week and Guillaume at Bennelong came in at number eight!
So don’t wait till you’ve got visitors, don’t wait for a show, Sydney Opera House is your greatest cultural landmark, and, unusually enough, it happens to contain within its smallest sail an excellent modern French restaurant.
Your experience can be as casual as crab sandwiches in the bar looking at the harbour over the lip of a well made martini or glass of Graves, or as involved as the mysteries of the gingerbread sauce spooned tableside over veal sweetbreads,
glossy and resplendent on a bed of roasted almonds and currants. Service is as cultured as ever, and there’s a fresh boldness in the food that makes the restaurant all the more magical: John Dory surfs an orange wave of carrot and ginger, marron, macaroni gratin and Sauternes sauce.
