In 2010, The Australian Ballet begins the three-year countdown to its 50th birthday with a feast of dance and music. Highlights of the season include The Silver Rose, a full-length Australian premiere from Graeme Murphy, plus the very special encore season of Peter Wright’s magical and very traditional production of The Nutcracker. There’s also the return of family favourite Coppélia; Edge of night, a sophisticated showcase of Australian choreography; and the fashion-inspired Bodytorque. à la mode. All performances are accompanied by the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, playing the music of Tchaikovsky, Handel, Rachmaninov, Carl Vine and Gerard Brophy.

Company Overview
Founded in 1962, The Australian Ballet is one of Australia’s flagship arts companies, and for over four decades has been the defining face of ballet in Australia. One of the busiest ballet companies in the world, the company annually presents approximately 200 performances in cities and regional areas around Australia, in addition to their regular international touring. Each year, it performs works from the classical repertoire as well as contemporary works by major Australian and international choreographers, and new commissions that explore the development and future of this dynamic art form.
